Foreign Policy….The Tea Party Way

                                                                        Foreign Policy…the Tea Party Way

AFGHANISTAN

Our soldiers did a spectacular job of “regime change” after 9/11. They kicked out the Taliban and Al Qaeda in record time. Then the State Department used a northern European template of dealing with the “country” of Afghanistan. Afghanistan has no strong central government….it NEVER has. Even Genghis Khan gave up on central control of this region. It is a region with allegiance first to your family, then your tribe, and tribal leader in small, often geographically isolated pockets. There’s an old saying “You can’t ever BUY an Afghani’s loyalty, but you can always RENT it !”. We have to make separate alliances of convenience with the 20+- warlords that rule the land. “Help us with the jihadists OR we napalm your poppy fields”. By the way, opium production is up 40% in the last 3 years….the only true economic success story! Our troops are relegated to communicating with the warlords, getting intel and hitting the enemy with drones and special ops OR taking out their poppy fields. We do NOT take and hold territory. Send Hamid Karzai to southern California and have him open a hat store.

PAKISTAN

This country really is controlled by the Army, the ISI (FBI without the pesky rules) and the warlords in the “uncontrolled tribal areas” bordering Afghanistan. The Army and ISI have sharply divided loyalties between the jihadists and the moderates. The US is the only superpower in the world but the Pakistanis aren’t afraid of us. They know that we don’t have the political will to “let loose” on them even though they did hide Osama Bin Laden a mile down the road from their West Point for 7 years. They are, however, TERRIFIED about India. These two countries have had 3 “hot” wars since 1947 caused by a lousy British partitioning of Muslim and Hindu dominated lands. India has 1.2 Billion people and 400 NUKES….Pakistan has 200 million people and about 100 NUKES. We have long, strong ties to India and should use them to pressure Pakistan. Openly engaging in negotiations to sell our latest and greatest whiz bang weapons systems to them would make the Pakistanis sit up and BEG like a dog for us not to do it. They give us “actionable intel” on the jihadists. We use this to target drones, attack planes and special ops to take them out. We do NOT take and hold territory.

IRAN

There are two choices here: a very bad one and a horrible one. This is because we aren’t doing business with a country that will respond to MAD (mutually assured destruction). We conducted the Cold War for 40+ years with the Soviets and the Chinese based on this Mexican standoff.  The surrogate wars we fought were plentiful….Korea, Viet Nam, Angola, Nicaragua but we avoided a devastating thermonuclear annihilation. The fundamentalists running Iran WANT the end of times to occur. They believe that the Mahdi (has lived in the bottom of a well in Qom for 400+ tears) will come back and they’ll all get their 72 virgins (I’m hoping they’re all 70 yr. old Irish nuns with cattle prods). There is no negotiation with the 21st century version of a Kamikaze.

The HORRIBLE CHOICE: we do nothing and the Iranians get a NUKE. They WILL use it on Israel and Israel will retaliate: 1) Millions dead…2) Price of oil is $200-300 / barrel…3) Global financial collapse.

The VERY BAD CHOICE: we unilaterally hit Iran with 1 specialized NUKE that creates an Electro Magnetic Pulse. An EMP weapon is exploded at between 250-300 miles in the atmosphere and fries the entire country’s electrical grid. It does NOT blow up any cities…no mushroom cloud. The net effect is all domestic electrical service ends PERMANENTLY: no lights, no phones, no cars, no airplanes, no water supply. It will cause total civil unrest and instantly turn their technological clock back to 1890. Then we take out Iran’s Air Force and Navy with standoff missiles. Iran is eliminated as an existential threat to Israel and our economy. The rest of the players in the neighborhood will be much more cooperative with us. The religious fanatics in the region will paint more “Death to America” signs but the political and military leadership will crack down on them out of pure self- preservation. The US will be targeted with more “home gown” terrorist attacks…unfortunately, they’re coming anyway. We do NOT take and hold any land.

The guiding principles of these foreign policy approaches are: 1) Understand who the decision makers are; 2) Understand what is moist important to them; 3) Use our incredibly talented and dedicated troops in the most effective way possible; 4) Drop the campaign to win “Miss Congeniality” and have the world just address us as…..SIR !

My Fellow Co-conspirators,

All of us who were at the August meeting were permanently affected by the impassioned speech that Les Gosule made to enact Melissa’s Law. His daughter was kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered by a carrer criminal with 27 CONVICTIONS  !

This week we will be pushing the legislative process with a FACE /FACE strategy that is designed to do one thing…SHAME THESE pols into 1) getting this bill out of committee. It has been stuck there for over 10 years !!

We will need your help : 1) writing letters to the editor; 2) calling into talk radio shows when we have Les lined up ; 3) calling the state reps ; 4) Stand Out Protest for passage.

Our friends on talk radio are on board waiting to push at the right momement for maximum effectiveness.

We have some friends on Beacon Hill who have to “play by the rules”…we can be the HAMMER to get this done.

This cause had, by far, the STRONGEST RESPONSE from you my TeaMates to do something…well we’re gonna do A LOT !

This is our time to FORCE pols to do the right thing !

Stay tuned for the sequencing of events…

Our Vested Interest

Tom Weaver is an eloquent and passionate writer and speaker on American history and it’s founding principles.

One would think that our Founders wanted the country to be totally committed BEFORE we send our troops, our treasure, our future into harms way, especially if there was no grave danger of attack.   The Constitution gives the enumerated power to Congress to declare war and made the President the Commander in Chief.   There was no mention of any other type of engagement – only war.  While Congress has only issued a Declaration of War 5 times in our Nations history, Congress has frequently passed resolutions and spending authorizations in response to a decision of the President.  But even though Congress has taken ownership, there has still been the creation of a slippery slope, for we have lost the definition of war…

During the Nixon years, Congress overrode a Presidential veto to pass the War Powers Act in an attempt to correct the slippery slope.  America was in turmoil due to over 54,000 Americans killed in Korea and 58,000 Americans killed in Vietnam.  Neither conflict was a declared war nor was much gained for the ultimate cost.  The War Powers Act stated that troops can be sent into harms way only by Congressional authorization or by the President if the country is under attack or in grave danger of attack, with Congressional approval after a period of time.  Simply stated, if our kids are going to fight and possibly die, it is important that the elected representatives of the people were committed to the task.

I am not sure that the War Powers Act has achieved its goal.  That said, this current Kinetic Military Action really bothers me.  This is the first time I can remember where we have committed troops without a perceived imminent threat or an attack on our citizens.  I understand that there are times we must fight.  I served, many of you have served and we have all lost friends, classmates and loved ones.  We understand that to preserve our freedom, we must be ready to fight.  Indeed, it is the reason for the 2nd Amendment – to preserve our freedom against those that would take it….

But today, the consensus seems to be that Libya poses no direct threat to us, so we are risking American lives and wasting American money for what??  And before Congress needs to be involved, we have transferred command to NATO.  Guess what??  The United States is NATO…  We are still placing Americans into harms way, we are still spending a huge amount of money.  But by using NATO, we avoid answering to Congress and the American people.  We are within the law, but not the intent of the law.

America fights to preserve our freedom but not all fights preserve freedom.  What if we commit our troops whenever and wherever another power asks, eroding their strength and moral?  What if we fight for the Right to Protect Doctrine as defined by the United Nations versus defending our own sovereignty?   What if we fight but due to Rules of Engagement, we do not allow our troops to win, we only allow them to die?  What if we fight, but do not have a stated plan for victory, only a protracted conflict wasting our treasure?  What if we spend too much and bankrupt our Nation?  What if our elected government ignores the will of the people, leaving us complacent?

It is time to get selfish and worry about this Nation.  It is time to get involved, to demand answers to tough questions.  It is time to send letters and be heard.  We the People have a vested duty as defined by the Constitution.  We the People must secure the blessings of liberty for our posterity….

Scott Brown calls out Obama !

My Fellow Co-conspirators,

“When taxes and regulations are higher…businesses go away !
When taxes and regulations are lower…businesses come and stay !
Ever buy anything from New Hampshire ?….Yeah, me too !”

I used this lead in for some Sandi Martinez radio spots last fall.

Scott Brown knocks it outta the park with the following letter.
He’s singing Our Song, backing it up with specifics, being respectful but forceful (hard to do).

This track’s Capt. Jim Dixon’s plan also 1) Identify duplicate programs; 2) Cut the duplication while keeping essential programs in place; 3) Set a more business / jobs friendly tax rate based on the savings.

This letter is proof positive why, in every meaningful way, Scott Brown is Massachusetts’  Senior Senator !

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT,

Welcome to the Commonwealth, the home of thousands of hard-working families, small-business owners and innovators who are the job creators in our state. Listening to these individuals, I’ve come to believe that America faces three great challenges: jobs, debt, and a deficit of trust.
Currently, Massachusetts has an 8.3 percent unemployment rate. While we are better off than some other states, too many Massachusetts citizens are still looking for work.
Massachusetts has the foundation for job creation in industries ranging from health care start-ups to manufacturing, technology, and finance, but our entrepreneurs need a better business environment to have confidence to expand, buy a new piece of equipment, or hire that extra worker. That is why we must reduce tax rates and give businesses more long-term certainty about the tax code.
Higher taxes mean fewer jobs, and America has the second-highest corporate tax rate of any industrialized country. When Japan reduces its tax rate, we’ll have the dubious distinction of being number one. We need to improve the incentives for businesses to create jobs here in America. A bipartisan bill I’ve introduced, the Brown-Klobuchar Innovate America Act, would cut through the red tape that’s holding back our manufacturers and boost science and technology innovation.
Small business owners are also worried about over-regulation. The fishing industry in Massachusetts should be thriving and creating jobs for coastal families. Instead, about 60 percent of our fishing boats are idle, due to the Commerce Department’s draconian regulations that are strangling the fishing industry with a catch-share policy that isn’t based on sound science. In your State of the Union address, you called for a review of all federal rules and regulations. But we need actions and soon. I have introduced a bill to reform these restrictions and breathe life into these communities, which I hope you will support.
Growing our economy will require Washington to stop its binge spending habits. At every level — local, state, and federal — the government is saddled with too much debt, and more borrowing goes on the national credit card every single day. You said that you would veto bills containing earmarks, and that’s a good start. But unfortunately, old Washington habits are hard to break. The budget you proposed in February would almost double the debt in 10 years to $27 trillion. By 2025, tax revenues will only cover interest payments, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Every other federal government activity — from national defense to education — will have to be paid for with borrowed money, which will be added to the tabs of our children and future generations.
The current budget debate is an opportunity to finally prioritize our spending. A Government Accountability Office investigation just uncovered a staggering amount of waste and duplication in the federal government. That’s where we should start. Year after year, we spend hundreds of billions of dollars that we never monitor or evaluate. We don’t need 26 federal programs doing the same thing. Cutting wasteful spending will mean fewer cuts to worthy programs, like low-income heating assistance, education, or jobs and housing for our returning veterans.
Finally, Washington has lost the faith of the American people. If we are going to tackle the huge challenges of creating jobs and addressing the debt, the American people need to be able to trust Washington again. Shining a light on our spending habits is the first step. I just introduced a bipartisan bill with Senator Bill Nelson of Florida that would require the IRS to provide an itemized “receipt’’ showing taxpayers exactly how the federal government spends our money every year and how much new debt we’re putting on the national credit card. This effort will lead to more government transparency.
Creating jobs, growing our economy, and cutting wasteful spending are too important to let partisan politics get in the way. There is a D next to your name and an R next to mine. And while we don’t always agree, I hope we can work together to support pro-growth policies that will put people back to work and make the hard choices necessary
to lead our country toward a fiscally responsible path so we can once again lead the world. Respectfully, Scott Brown Scott Brown is a US senator from Massachusetts.

Try them in Guantanamo …NOW !

Senator Brown Gains Wide Recognition for Guantanamo Statement

-The following op-ed ran in the Boston Herald on Wednesday March 23rd

This year our nation will sadly mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that murdered nearly 3,000 Americans. Despite pledges from our leaders to seek swift and certain punishment, the wheels of justice have turned slowly. No one to this day has been charged with these mass killings.
Part of the problem lies in the Obama administration’s inability to come to terms with the nature of the war we are fighting. After campaigning to close the Guantanamo detention center, President Barack Obama finally took a step in the right direction by issuing an executive order to restart military trials there.
I strongly urge the White House to go even further and declare its intention to hold a military trial for the self-proclaimed 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), along with his major co-conspirators. It was a mistake to think he could be tried in civilian courts as an ordinary criminal. A public backlash prevented that trial from going forward. It’s time to get it back on track this time, in a military setting.
Earlier this week I visited the Guantanamo Bay detention center. While there are no easy answers when it comes to dealing with terrorists captured on the battlefield, I am more convinced than ever that the Guantanamo facility should remain open. Based on the criticisms I had heard, I was prepared for the horrors of Devil’s Island. But I was impressed by the naval base’s pristine condition, ample amenities and overall high quality. The military personnel are highly trained and the detainees are in good condition. They play soccer, pray and attend classes. Detainees have access to the same health facilities as our military personnel. There’s an $18.2 million prison hospital where detainees are treated for illnesses and injuries many sustained on the soccer field.
Most importantly, the detention facility includes a new, state-of-the-art courthouse complex that was uniquely built for military tribunals and highly-classified proceedings. This courtroom was designed by national security experts for the trials of dangerous terrorist suspects, such as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
Some people may argue the Guantanamo Bay courtroom should remain unused. I disagree. Instead of sitting empty, this courtroom should be used as a setting to seek the “swift and certain justice” that was promised to the families of 9/11 victims.
Shutting down Guantanamo means we would either absorb terrorists into the U.S. penal system, send them to other countries or release them. None of these is an acceptable option.
Transporting terrorists to U.S. prisons would not only increase threats to our homeland, but it would cost billions in taxpayer dollars. Terrorists purposely targeted Americans on Sept. 11, 2001, and we — not other countries — should administer the justice they deserve.
Finally, simply releasing these men is unthinkable given that nearly 25 percent of Guantanamo detainees already released have re-joined terrorist organizations. As our military and civilian forces risk their lives every day on the battlefield, we cannot allow captured terrorists to return home to plot future attacks and wage war against us.
I am committed to working with my colleagues and the president on a realistic plan to handle Guantanamo detainees. I recently co-sponsored legislation with Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), and Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) that would keep the Guantanamo facility open, impose restrictions on transferring detainees to foreign countries and push for military commissions to decide the fate of detainees.
Now the Obama administration has everything it needs to bring “certain justice” to those responsible for the attacks on 9/11 — even if it has not been “swift.”
Ten years is way too long for action. The thousands of victims, their families, and the American people are still waiting. - Senator Brown

Liberals and Taxes

Friday, 25 March 2011, 5:12 | Category : Featured News
Tags :

Sometimes you just have to laugh about liberals and their taxes.  They are always the ones who want to raise taxes, but amazingly enough; they never want to pay them.

Senator John Kerry was a good example.  In 2008, he agreed to pay $500,000 in taxes to the state of Massachusetts over a yacht he owns and some how or another, he forgot to pay the taxes on.   Tim Geithner screwed up on his taxes, but blamed it on Turbo Tax.

Now we have Claire McCaskill, the ultra liberal Senator from Missouri.  First, she inappropriately billed the government $88,000 for the plane for personal travel.   Now she has discovered she owes Missouri $287,000 in taxes.

In a statement she said, “there are people she could blame” but she would take responsibility for the error.  Translation, I’m really blaming someone else but will pretend I am doing the right thing.

This is wrong at so many levels.  I am sure we have all forgotten to pay over a quarter of a million dollars in taxes.  It happens all the time to all of us, right?

Perhaps we should invoke the term that really screams to be used here:  hypocrisy!

Liberals are the worst hypocrites.  They demand that we all “pay our fair share” of taxes but then they never want to pay their share. I don’t blame them.  I don’t want to pay my taxes either.

Liberals scream about those of us who not only do not want higher taxes but also want taxes cut.  We are greedy and selfish. Really?  What is the word we use for people like Claire McCaskill?  How about crook?

Liberals have managed to grow government to obscene levels.  Taxes, such as the personal property taxes that Claire “blame other people” McCaskill owe simple feed the largess of the government welfare state.

How much of our government do we really need?   Government is bloated at all levels.  When was the last time we downsized government?  Can anyone remember?  Thanks to politicians like Claire McCaskill government continues to grow and suck up all the available resources it can.

For state and local politicians, the norm now seems to be they are graded on what kind of new project they can get funded and created.  A new highway, new buildings for a University, a new sports stadium or a new convention center.  When was the last time we had a politician in state or local office that really cut spending?  When was the last time we had one at the Federal level that seriously cut spending?

We are bankrupt and we can thank tax-dodging politicians like McCaskill for that.   On one level, I don’t blame her for trying to avoid her taxes.  But given her love of taxing the American people, I can only hope her tax bill goes up exponentially.
